The World Bank has established a collaboration with Akademi Teknik Tirta Wiyata (AKATIRTA) to provide additional technical assistance support to PDAMs in improving PDAMs’ capacity, performance and day-to-day technical operation, with funding support from the SECO funded Indonesia Sustainable Urbanization (ID-SUN). This technical assistance is provided through the assignment of junior engineers (JEs) focusing on supporting PDAMs with lower capacity, that eligible and in the process of receiving the Seed Grant from the NUWSP. AKATIRTA’s JEs support PDAMs, under the supervision of its senior engineers, in identifying gaps and developing recommendations to improve PDAMs’ technical operation, including facilitation for identification and preparation (or improvement) of Standard Operation Procedures, provide training on technical operation and system’s maintenance, as well as training and technical facilitation for preparation and/or improvement of the design documents.

The first phase of technical assistance and capacity development was successfully provided in six PDAMs namely PDAM Kota Sabang, Kabupaten Aceh Utara, Kota Sawah Lunto, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir, Kabupaten Enrekang, and Kabupaten Sikka. The second phase had also been deployed in four PDAMs of Kota Dumai, Kota Blitar, Kabupaten Bengkulu Tengah, and Kabupaten Barru. The second phase will be completed by end October 2022. and the World Bank had received all the expected outputs of all activities. As part of the activity completion, final workshops will be conducted in two locations: Kota Blitar, which will be focused on NRW (Non-Revenue Water) and Kota Dumai which will present all findings and recommendation of the technical assistance and capacity building in general.

The objective of the workshop in Kota Blitar is to present the reports and to obtain feedback from the relevant PDAMs on the performance of the technical assistance and capacity building provided by AKATIRTA particularly on Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction and whether the technical assistance and capacity building had been successfully delivered and ultimately improve NRW reduction in PDAM Kota Blitar.
